This assembly is a fuel filter and water separator built for marine and small engine fuel systems. It includes the filter housing with a clear polycarbonate collection bowl, a replaceable canister-type filter element (typically 10 micron), and the integral fittings for fuel line connection. The unit accepts 3/8" barb inlet/outlet on one end and 1/4" NPT thread on the mounting or accessory side as specified.
The clear bowl lets you visually inspect fuel and accumulated water or debris without disassembly. A manual drain/petcock at the bowl’s base allows easy purging of separated water. The housing and fasteners are made from materials with good corrosion resistance to withstand saltwater and humid conditions common in marine use.
Designed to match common outboard fuel systems, the assembly is intended for inline installation between the fuel tank or primer bulb and the engine. It reduces water and particulate contamination reaching the engine, protecting fuel pumps, carburetors, and injectors. Regular inspection and periodic replacement of the filter element keep the system performing properly.
Pros
- Transparent bowl for fast visual checks
- Replaceable 10μm filter element
- Corrosion-resistant construction
Cons
- Canister may be tight on some mounts
- Not a diagnostic tool for internal fuel issues
- Requires periodic filter replacements
VerdictA dependable fuel filter and water separator for marine and small-engine applications. The transparent bowl makes inspection simple, the replaceable 10μm element handles sediment and water, and the corrosion-resistant construction suits harsh environments. Installation is straightforward for most outboard and portable engines; some units may require a wrench to separate the canister from its mount

Stuck to its mount—couldn’t separate
I couldn’t get the filter to come off the mounting bracket even with tools. Because I couldn’t remove it for service, I can’t recommend this one based on my experience.

No leaks, simple to fit
Installed quickly and has stayed dry under pressure. The installation was straightforward and I haven’t seen any of the valve leak reports mentioned elsewhere. Seems durable and I’d buy it again without hesitation.

Using it on an RV generator
Replaced the tiny stock filter on my generator with this larger unit. It’s a straightforward fit and offers added protection to the fuel system. The water separator may be overkill for some gas engines, but it’s cheap insurance given declining fuel quality.

Keeps fuel clean and easy to monitor
This S3227 separator impressed me with solid construction and a clear bowl that really helps when checking fuel quality. The fittings feel sturdy and it provides confident protection for my outboard. It looks and performs far above cheap throwaway filters.

Solid build and useful sight window
The replaceable 10 micron element looks well made and the clear bowl makes it easy to spot contaminants. Outlet is centered; inlet can be from either side. Would be helpful if some models included a buoyant ring to highlight water in difficult-to-see installations.

Very convenient for checking water in fuel
The clear collection bowl and purge valve make detecting and removing water far easier than unscrewing a cartridge and pouring it out. I check mine frequently and this design saves time and hassle.

Great value for peace of mind
A well-priced 10μm water-separating canister with a clear bowl that reassures you it’s working. Easy to install and service, and draining water is as simple as opening the petcock. I had no leakage problems after fitting.
