Kidde Hardwired Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm Combo — 4-Pack
Product description
This Kidde hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide alarm combo (model 900-CUAR-V) combines two sensors in one housing: a photoelectric chamber for visible smoke and a sealed electrochemical sensor for carbon monoxide. The package ships as a four-pack and arrives with 2 AA batteries to provide backup power during outages. The unit operates on 120V AC house power and mounts to a supplied bracket that allows installation in four orientations.
When hazards are detected the alarm emits an 85-decibel siren, flashes red LEDs, and provides spoken alerts clearly identifying the situation (smoke/fire or carbon monoxide). A trio of indicator LEDs reports device status: green for normal operation, amber for a fault or connection issue, and red for an active alarm state. The Smart-Hush silence button temporarily mutes nuisance alarms for about eight minutes.
Built-in self-testing circuitry continually monitors key components, though a weekly manual button test is still recommended to confirm operation. Multiple alarms can be linked via your home’s hardwired interconnect so a triggered unit will activate others on the circuit; interoperability is limited to compatible Kidde models with hardwired interconnect capability. The alarm is UL listed and carries a 10-year limited manufacturer’s warranty on the alarm itself, which begins when the unit is first powered. If the initial power-on date is unknown, replacement should be assumed at the end of its service life.
Pros
- Dual smoke and CO sensing in one unit
- Hardwired power with included AA battery backup
- Voice alerts and multi-color LED status indicators
Cons
- Older wiring may require an adapter
- A single failed unit can trigger the entire interconnect chain
- Voice/alarm can be very loud at end-of-life or failure
VerdictA reliable combined smoke and carbon monoxide alarm that gives continuous self-checks, voice announcements, and whole-house interconnect through your home wiring. It includes battery backup and clear LED status indicators, plus a hush feature for temporary silencing. Consider an adapter if your home uses an older detector harness.

One defective unit triggered alarm
In my four-pack one unit immediately caused a fire alert across the network.

Simple update for old units
Easy swap to modern detectors — perfect for replacing outdated models.

Nighttime failure caused a deafening alarm
Around 2 a.m. a single unit failed and produced a blaring alarm that woke us. The bad device was flashing red and it set off all eight connected alarms. Replacing the entire network would be costly.

Saved money and installed without trouble
Replaced end-of-life hardwired detectors with identical Kidde units. I hardwired the harness directly and everything met Kidde's specs. One unit had a problem but the seller resolved it quickly. AA batteries were included and tests were successful. Installation was straightforward aside from climbing the ladder.

Works great but connector change is annoying
Loud, clear voice alerts and zero false alarms over two years. Battery backup handled outages and interconnect works well. Frustratingly, the plug design changed so older harnesses need an adapter — worth grabbing one before swapping.

Good upgrade and easy hookup
Quick-connect adapters made installation fast. They function well and are a solid improvement over my previous detectors.

Straightforward with adapter
Used a separate cable adapter to mate with an older Kidde base. Installation was a simple DIY and customer service helped confirm the compatible model to avoid rewiring.

Much cheaper than professional replacement
Needed several replacements for 25-year-old detectors. An alarm company quoted far more for similar work. We reused the existing wiring and installed multiple units quickly. Batteries still new so no feedback on long-term battery life.
