Cedar Box Wren House with Clean-Out Door — Wren & Chickadee Nest Box
Product description
Includes one cedar wren house with a hinged clean-out door for easy maintenance. Constructed from naturally rot-resistant cedar and treated with a water-based protective stain to extend outdoor life.
The entrance hole measures 1 1/8", a size chosen to attract house wrens and chickadees but discourage larger birds. Air vents in the walls and openings in the floor promote airflow and drainage to keep the interior healthy for nestlings.
Designed to be mounted on a post, wall, or tree (hardware not included), the house can be opened for annual cleaning between seasons. Its simple, rustic appearance also makes it suitable as gift or small outdoor décor for gardeners and birdwatchers.
Pros
- Sized specifically for wrens and chickadees (1 1/8" hole)
- Ventilation and drainage for healthier nests
- Hinged clean-out door for easy maintenance
Cons
- Mounting hardware not included
- Some units may need extra ventilation or drainage tweaks
- Occasional finish variation between pieces
VerdictA well-made cedar nest box that suits small cavity-nesters. The 1 1/8" entrance suits wrens and chickadees while keeping bigger species away. Venting and floor openings support healthy nesting conditions, and the hinged access panel makes seasonal cleaning straightforward. Durable cedar and a water-based protective finish help the box endure outdoors; with basic mounting it becomes a long-lasting

Works well on a fence
Does the job and is well made. I added a mounting plate and screws to attach it to my fence.

Helpful mounting tip
Nice as shown. Would be easier to hang if a pilot hole or a small hanger were preinstalled on the back to prevent splitting for those less experienced.

Solid cedar nest boxes I keep buying
Really pleased with these cedar boxes. The entrance is the right size for small birds and keeps larger species out. Previous ones lasted for years, so I replaced old units with new ones for more spots around the yard. Birds consistently use them.

Small and effective
Good little wren house. I drilled holes through the top board and screwed it to a tall stump. Easy to clean out at season’s end, so expect it to last.

Busy wren neighborhood
Well made with the correct 1 1/8" entrance. I suspected it wasn’t true cedar at first due to a faint scent that faded, so I added small ventilation holes and drainage slots, and scored the inside of the door to help chicks climb. Mounted six feet up under an eave for protection; should attract nesting next season.

Occupied quickly
Solid, well-assembled house. I used to build these myself but can’t any more due to tremors. Mounted under a sheltered post and wrens moved in within days.

Sturdy and practical
A very nice wren box. The hinged access makes cleaning simple. The flat roof is neat and could hold a light pot if it stays dry. Great purchase.

Ideal for chickadees
Excellent cedar box: simple, tidy, and built to handle cold and wet conditions. The small entrance protects chickadees from larger, aggressive species. Highly recommended.

Excellent quality, well finished
Very solid construction and good value. I lightly torched the wood and treated it with linseed oil, and cut two small slits to make entry easier.
