Roughneck Gorilla 3.6kg / 8lb Anti-Jamming Splitting Maul
Product description
This Roughneck Gorilla splitting maul is supplied as a single, ready-to-use tool weighing 3.6kg (8lb). The head features a dual-wedge, anti-jamming profile that helps force wood apart and reduces the chance of the head sticking in the split.
The head is drop-forged and heat-treated with induction-hardened striking faces for improved wear resistance and long-term durability. It is mounted on a compression-fitted solid fibreglass core handle to provide structural strength without the maintenance concerns of wood. A shock-absorbing grip covers the handle to reduce vibration and improve control when swinging.
Intended for heavy-duty log splitting, the maul is used in the usual swinging motion to deliver concentrated force to rounds and trunk sections. Its construction and materials make it suitable for large, knotty timber where a robust, anti-jamming head and strong handle are priorities.
Pros
- Anti-jamming dual-wedge head increases splitting efficiency
- Drop-forged, heat-treated head with induction-hardened faces
- Compression-fitted fibreglass core and shock-absorbing grip
Cons
- Hefty weight can be tiring during long sessions
- May be unwieldy for users with limited upper-body strength
- Overkill for very small kindling or light tasks
VerdictA powerful, durable maul designed for tackling large, stubborn logs. The anti-jamming dual-wedge head boosts splitting efficiency while the drop-forged, heat-treated construction and hardened faces stand up to repeated impact. The fibreglass core and cushioned grip add strength and comfort, though the weight can be tiring for prolonged use.

Heavy-duty health project
Powerful tool for knotty timber. I keep a mechanical splitter for volume, but swinging this 20 minutes a night could be my new fitness plan while I work through a lot of beech and ash.

Noticeable improvement
Far better than my old axe; splits logs I couldn't manage before. A straightforward upgrade.

Efficient & solid
Hefty and reliable. My partner loves it; I do too, though it gets tiring after long sessions.
