Portland Design Works Sparrow Water Bottle Cage — Lightweight Bike Holder (Black)
Product description
This water bottle cage is offered in several bird-themed silhouettes and uses a side-entry configuration so bottles can be removed and replaced easily on compact frames or when space is tight.
Manufactured from a single sheet of 5052 aluminum alloy, each cage features decorative diamond cutouts to shave weight while maintaining structural grip. The finished piece weighs approximately 54 grams (1.9 oz) and has a matte anodized look in the black option.
The body is shaped to exert even pressure around a bottle, keeping it firmly seated during rough sections and jumps. Riders can gently spread or squeeze the winged arms to accommodate different bottle shapes, from standard bottles to many larger insulated designs.
Mounting is straightforward with included stainless steel bolts. The cage supports typical downtube and seat-tube installations and is intended to allow multiple cages to be mounted on a single frame with consistent, single-side access. The manufacturer backs the product with a lifetime warranty.
Pros
- Very lightweight 5052-alloy construction
- Side-entry shape works on compact frames
- Includes stainless mounting bolts and lifetime warranty

VerdictThis Sparrow cage pairs eye-catching animal-inspired styling with a practical side-entry layout and a very light 5052-alloy construction. At roughly 54 grams, the diamond-cut pattern trims weight without sacrificing a firm hold, and the engineered body applies consistent pressure so bottles stay put over bumpy terrain. Loads of fun
It’s simply joyful to have on the bike. Adds a whimsical touch, is well made, and comes from a company that seems to care.

Fantastic cage
About to buy a second one. It looks great and the wings can be adjusted for odd bottle shapes. Heads up: it can scuff plastic and metal bottles.

Adorable and functional
I added this as a second holder and I run a 20 oz insulated Polar bottle in it. It’s a bit snug but not troublesome. A 24 oz narrower bottle might fit more easily, but frame placement limits me to the shorter bottle. I love the design and the black ties in nicely with my bike accents—would love a robin-egg blue someday!

Simply gorgeous
I wanted a new cage and this one caught my eye. The bottle seats firmly, is easy to remove, and it added just the right flash to my 1988 American Comp Lite. After more than 2,000 miles and a year of use it still looks new and my bottle shows no scuffs. Still impressed.

I adore it!
When I got my new bike I researched holders and found this Sparrow. I had to have it — my last name and its tiny winged look sealed the deal. It mounts without blocking my tube storage so I can access tools easily. It never let a bottle fall out even when I nearly went airborne over rough terrain during a triathlon. Solid, secure, and people comment on it constantly. I’ll be returning to this maker.

Attractive and solid
I own several of these and this iteration has wing slots instead of solid wings, which I prefer visually. It’s well built and looks great. Not featherweight, but not heavy either. If you like the look, you’ll be pleased.

Distinctive look
I wanted something unique for my custom frame; this fit the bill. I mainly use it to carry light items like spare batteries since I prefer a hydration pack. I wished it came as a crow design, but the black sparrow is attractive. I’ve owned similar styles and will watch how the wing grips hold up — that area can bend when the bike is laid down. The maker seems passionate and competent.

Stylish and practical
This version has cutout wings rather than filled highlights. It arrives with frame bolts, feels sturdy, and the matte anodized finish seems durable. It holds both standard and larger insulated bottles well, is easy to use on the move, and you can bend the wings a touch to preference. Glad to see creative bike gear like this.
