Fresh News Recycled Paper Small Animal Litter — 10 L Bag
Product description
This product is sold as a 10-liter bag of compressed paper pellets intended for use as small-animal litter or bedding. The pellets are manufactured from 100% post-consumer recycled paper gathered from recycling centers and processed into soft, roundish pellets that retain shape when wet. The formula is designed to offer high absorbency — the manufacturer compares its moisture-holding capacity favorably to clay-based options — and to reduce airborne dust during handling.
The pellets are described as non-allergenic and over 99% dust-free, making them suitable for pets and owners sensitive to dust or respiratory irritants. They are non-toxic and intended for use with a wide range of small animals, including rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas and similar species. When composted properly, the paper pellets are biodegradable and can help divert material away from landfills.
In practice the litter is used like other pellet litters: fill or line a litter pan or tray, replace soaked pellets as needed, and fully change the substrate when saturation or odor indicates. Some users layer pellets over training pads or use a shallow layer in a wire-topped toilet box to extend life between full changes. Because pellets form clumps or retain shape when wet, they make spot removal possible, though heavy soiling may require replacing the entire batch in a pan.
Pros
- High liquid absorption and strong odor control
- Low dust and non-allergenic for sensitive pets
- Made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper and compostable
Cons
- Some animals may initially refuse pellet litter
- Occasional small non-paper flecks reported in batches
- Can require full replacement more often under heavy use
VerdictA highly absorbent, low-dust pellet litter made from 100% post-consumer paper. It neutralizes odors well and is gentle under paws, making it a solid choice for many small pets and owners concerned about dust and environmental impact. Some users report acceptance issues with picky animals and occasional foreign flecks in batches, so check contents when opening a new bag.

Affordable, clean option for rabbit owners
I've used these for years with my rabbits. They apply easily, clean up without fuss, and generally keep odor manageable. Bags contain ample pellets, which is helpful because rabbits produce a lot of droppings. Overall a reliable, economical choice for my bunnies.

Less tracking and lighter to handle
This worked well for my older cat — less tracking around the house and decent odor control. The pellets are lightweight compared with clay, so bags are easier to bring inside. Note: larger pellets can be awkward for an elderly cat to move and cover waste.

Soft, low-dust and eco-conscious bedding
I switched to these paper pellets and was pleased. The pellets feel gentle underfoot and I noticed much less airborne dust than with my previous bedding. Odor control is noticeably better — moisture is absorbed and the cage stays fresher. The 10 L bag is easy to manage and store. Environmentally conscious packaging and compostability are a big plus.

Older cat adapted, kitten was reluctant
After a vet recommended pellet litter, the older cat eventually used it once I mixed in a clump from the old pan. The younger cat initially refused pellet boxes and chose the play papers instead, causing a big cleanup. The pellets themselves performed well for the adult cat once introduced.

Absorbent, gentle and easy to clean
The pellets are very absorbent and kept my ferret’s box fresh longer than I expected. I appreciate that it’s recycled paper — it’s soft on feet and cleanup is simple. No noticeable dust, which is great for indoor use.

Excellent at blocking odors but watch for contaminants
Odor control is strong and I could go longer between full changes compared to pine. The product is mostly paper, but I found metal shards and some plastic in a bag. I now use it layered over another material so paws don't sit directly on the pellets. Useful but inspect each bag.

Two practical methods for rabbit toilets
I settled on two approaches: either fill the litter pan completely and replace daily, or put a training pad in the bottom and a small amount of pellets on top, then toss the pad the next day. My rabbit won’t use the box if I only scoop used parts, so the training-pad method works best under a wire grate.

Not much odor difference, local stores cheaper
I don't notice a big smell difference between this cellulose litter and hemp or other pellets. It was sold for much more here than at my nearby shop, so I’ll probably buy locally next time instead of from online sources.

Great for ferrets — minimal cling and odor control
I use this for my ferrets and recommend it. It doesn't cling to fur, so there’s less tracking, absorbs well, and controls smells better than some scented options. I’ve seen flecks of colored paper but no plastic. A little goes a long way and it reduced how often I tend the litter box.

Tried several litters before finding this helped
I experimented with CareFRESH, wood pellets and other brands; some absorbed poorly, others were refused by my bunny. This paper pellet option worked better than the earlier choices for acceptance and absorbency, though I still found I had to change frequently to avoid lingering smells.
