KitchenAid 7-Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer (KSM70SKXX)
Product description
This is a bowl-lift stand mixer built for large batches and heavy use. It features 11 distinct speed settings, including a specialized 1/2 speed intended for gentle folding so fragile ingredients like egg whites and berries are incorporated without overbeating.
The mixer ships with a 7-quart stainless steel bowl sized to handle big jobs — enough to mix roughly 13 dozen cookies in a single batch, knead upward of 8.5 pounds of bread dough, or mash more than 7.5 pounds of potatoes. Typical dough handling with the flat beater is efficient, and the device is intended for frequent, heavy-duty baking and cooking tasks.
Included accessories are: one 7-Qt stainless steel bowl, one double flex edge beater (a beater with a twist and two flexible edges that scrape the bowl for more complete ingredient incorporation), one coated flat beater, one coated dough hook, an 11-wire whip, and a pouring shield to help reduce splatter while adding ingredients.
The bowl-lift design provides a stable mixing platform with a three-point locking system to keep the bowl secure while handling dense mixtures. In comparative testing versus the brand’s tilt-head model KSM150, this bowl-lift unit delivers roughly twice the in-bowl peak power measured above speed 2, making it better suited for heavy doughs and extended kneading. To expand functionality, the mixer accepts more than ten optional attachments — from pasta rollers to meat grinders — each driven by the mixer’s hub (attachments are available separately).
Pros
- Generous 7-qt capacity for large batches
- Wide 11-speed range with 1/2 speed for gentle folding
- Comes with a broad set of essential attachments
Cons
- Heavier and takes more counter space than tilt-heads
- Some users have reported early failures
- Optional specialty attachments must be purchased separately
VerdictThis 7-quart bowl-lift mixer brings strong in-bowl power, a stable three-point bowl lock and a generous accessory kit that suits avid bakers and home cooks who make large batches. Eleven speed settings — including a half-speed for folding — plus the double flex edge beater help deliver even mixing and efficient ingredient incorporation. Reports from users show excellent performance for most tasks,

Upgraded Power and a Stunning Finish
A huge step up from my three-decade-old machine. It runs quietly, the controls feel safer and the modern attachments are well made. The sparkling red finish really caught my eye — opening the box felt like a celebration.

Lovely 7-Quart Workhorse
Exactly what I wanted — simple to use and performs beautifully. Attachment options are plentiful and the finish is attractive. Stable while kneading and solid without being unwieldy; the 7-qt bowl is a game changer for big batches.

Quiet, Stable, and Well-Designed
I couldn’t be happier. Attachments fit without fuss, the mixer stays steady even at top speed, and it handles whipping and dough alike. The half-speed setting is useful — just set to zero before plugging in — and it arrived in excellent condition.

Solid Build, Ready for Work
Extremely pleased so far. It arrived essentially assembled and the bowl was already in place. The size is practical, quality feels professional, and it’s saved me time compared with hand mixing — a reliable value for regular use.

Handles Dough Beautifully
Works wonders with bread dough, saving time versus hand kneading. It’s easy to operate, cleans up simply, and performs well on other dough types too.

Durable Replacement for an Old Favorite
I bought this to replace my 27-year-old model. It took a bit to get used to the bowl-lift style versus the tilt-head, but otherwise it’s a fantastic, dependable machine and I’ll keep using this brand.

Replacement Resolved an Initial Fault
My first unit stopped after a single use, but the manufacturer shipped a replacement quickly. The second machine has been working well since.

Stopped Working After Only Two Uses
I was thrilled to finally own this mixer, but it failed about three minutes into icing on only the second use. I followed all troubleshooting steps and tried multiple outlets with no luck. I started a return through the retailer and explored replacement options, but a same-model swap could not be arranged, which was very disappointing after such high anticipation.

Stopped Mid-Knead
After decades of using these mixers, this one failed during my first batch of rolls. I hadn’t yet added all the flour and it simply quit at speed 4. No heat or smell, breakers fine — it’s dead. Very frustrating to have to stop mid-recipe and wait for a solution.

Faulty Unit Out of the Box
My new mixer started but shut off after only a few revolutions. Very disappointed given the cost and reputation — quality control should be tighter.

Excellent for Homemade Bread — Recipe Included
Received as a gift and it’s been great for making home-baked bread. Recommended formula: 630 g unbleached organic flour (you can substitute part with ground oats), 14 g instant yeast, 13 g salt, 60 g honey, 60 g butter or oil, 450 g water, and a pinch of ground ginger. Mix on low for 1–2 minutes, then raise to moderate speed for about 13 minutes while monitoring and adjusting to keep the unit steady.
