Yahtzee Words — Family Word-Dice Game (Letter Dice Edition)
Product description
A nostalgic reissue from the 1980s that marries the Yahtzee structure to wordplay. Instead of numbered faces, the kit contains seven molded plastic dice stamped with letters so players can roll and form words of varying lengths.
Gameplay follows a two-part score sheet divided into an Upper Section and Lower Section like the original Yahtzee. Each turn you must enter a score on the pad and aim for the Upper Bonus. Scoring boxes include familiar word-length targets plus special entries such as All Vowels, All Consonants, Multiple Words, and the rare seven-letter Yahtzee.
Contents are straightforward: seven letter dice, a paper score pad, a pencil, and a rule leaflet for quick setup and play. The dice fit comfortably in hand and the pad is standard paper; the pencil is a basic wood/graphite type included for immediate use.
Designed for two or more players ages 8 and up, rounds move quickly and the rules are accessible for families, classrooms, or casual gatherings. Use the included box for storage or roll on the lid when a flat surface is limited.
Pros
- Familiar Yahtzee structure with a word-focused twist
- Easy to teach and playable by ages 8+
- Compact set that’s simple to store and take on the go
Cons
- Very basic components—nothing deluxe
- Letter distribution can feel uneven in some sets
- Score pad is small and may run out after many plays
VerdictYahtzee Words keeps the quick, turn-based appeal of classic Yahtzee while swapping arithmetic for vocabulary. It’s easy for families and mixed-age groups to pick up yet demands more wordplay and strategy than simple chance. The components are compact and adequate for casual play; the scoring layout will feel familiar to veteran Yahtzee players while offering fresh challenges with unique categories

More brain work than classic Yahtzee
Really enjoyable. Requires noticeably more thought than standard Yahtzee, which is a nice change of pace.

Great mix for Scrabble and Yahtzee fans
We bought it because we like both Yahtzee and Scrabble. It's engaging and makes you think. It’s a fun challenge and we keep coming back to it.

Everyone enjoyed it
I tried it as a Yahtzee fan and it was a hit with my group. So much so I picked up extra copies to give away. Highly recommended!

Perfect for family game nights
Bought it for nights with the family — rules are quick to learn and games don’t drag. A bit trickier than the original, which keeps it interesting.

Good challenge for families
Our family loves regular Yahtzee and this version adds fresh hurdles. Not as fast-paced without a timer, but teens and adults liked it.

Tougher than original but rewarding
Gave this as a holiday gift. It’s significantly harder than the number version and does help build word-forming skills.

A fun variation on Yahtzee that’s easy to pick up. Components are basic so value feels modest. Handy to play on the box top when traveling.

Kept us playing for hours
We’re fans of original Yahtzee and this held our attention for multiple long sessions.

Fun but packaging odd
We enjoyed playing, but the box is oversized for the few items inside. The kit had seven dice but some letters were missing and a duplicate die appeared.

Nostalgic but tougher
I grew up on Yahtzee so I was excited to try this. It’s similar in flow but making words can be challenging. I like it, though it’s not wildly exciting.
