Learn an easy way to bake ham slices in the oven. This simple method is perfect for reheating a fully cooked ham for the holidays or preparing a quick, flavorful dinner any night of the week.

This year I changed up our holiday routine: instead of roasting a whole or half ham, I sliced the ham off the bone and baked individual slices. It turned out to be the fastest, easiest ham dinner I’ve ever made. We liked it so much I began buying a ham regularly for sandwiches and effortless weeknight meals.
This recipe is written for pre-cooked, spiral-cut ham slices, though the same method works well for ham steaks too.
Why you’ll love this easy recipe!

It’s virtually foolproof: slice, top, and bake.
No constant basting, no heavy lifting, and no guessing cooking times.
Ideal for a small holiday meal or when you’re serving several main dishes.

What You Need
Use these simple ingredients. Exact amounts are listed in the recipe card below.
- Fully cooked spiral ham — a 4-pound spiral-cut ham works well; choose uncured or cured according to preference. You can also buy a smaller ham and slice it yourself.
- Brown sugar and honey — for a sweet, caramelized topping.
- Water — added to the pan to keep the ham moist while baking.
How to Cook Ham Slices in the Oven
Arrange ham slices in a baking dish, mix brown sugar and honey, sprinkle the mixture over the slices (between layers if they overlap), add a little water to the bottom of the pan, cover, and bake. The whole process takes about 30 minutes total.

Quick Tips
If your ham includes a glaze packet, feel free to use it. In warm months I often brush slices with barbecue sauce for a different flavor profile.
If you’re preparing a large amount of ham, spread slices on a sheet pan. Leftovers freeze well for later use.

How to Cook Ham Slices in the Oven
Ingredients
- 4 pound ham fully cooked, spiral cut
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ¼ cup water
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
-
Cut slices of ham off the bone and place them in a 13×9-inch baking dish; they may overlap slightly.
-
Combine brown sugar and honey, then sprinkle evenly over the ham, working the mixture between overlapping layers if needed.
-
Pour water into the bottom of the baking dish to keep the ham moist.
-
Cover tightly with foil and bake for 20–30 minutes, or until heated through. For a slightly crisped top, remove the foil for the last 5–10 minutes. Serve warm.
Notes
Use the manufacturer’s glaze packet if you prefer. Barbecue sauce also makes a tasty summertime alternative.
Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for 3–4 days. Freeze extra ham for up to 3 months for best flavor.
